The first snap of cold air after a long hot summer always excites me. It signals the arrival of fall, which is one of my favorite times of year as a photographer. Every year as the leaves begin to change, I am grateful that my work as a photographer allows me to spend time outdoors enjoying the beauty of the season. Theand its rich autumn colors are the first thing on my list of what I love about fall photography in Northern Virginia.
Gorgeous Fall Foliage
There is a reason all the craft stores are brimming with fall decor by the end of August. The beautiful colors of autumn — vivid shades of reds, golden yellows, and tawny browns — create a warm and cozy feel. When it comes to photography, these earthy tones create a perfect backdrop to snap some stunning imagery. The layering of leaves upon the ground also creates texture and adds depth to photographs.
Fall fashion is full of bold hues mixed with flattering neutrals that make for a great photography wardrobe selection. It also encompasses classic plaid prints, chunky scarves, knit sweaters, and fun boots that create a pulled together look worth capturing. Every year, I love seeing the fashionable fall outfits my clients come up with! Need some ideas on what to wear for your photo shoot? Check out myboard on Pinterest.
There are so many amazing props that naturally enhance fall scenery! Some of my favorites come right from nature such as pumpkins, apples, barrels of hay, and colorful fall Chrysanthemums. It’s also the perfect time of year for your family to settle onto a cozy blanket or to showcase your little ones in a timeless red wagon.
I think the main reason I love fall so much though is that this time of year is all about family. In my little Northern Virginia neighborhood, I love seeing families outside putting up their fall decor, carving pumpkins, and sipping hot cider on their front porches. In my own home, I love planning for the holidays and crafting my Thanksgiving menu full of warm and comforting foods.
Because this season is all about family, it is one of my most popular times of year for scheduling family photo shoots. As the seasons change, so do your little ones — and I love being a part of preserving them for a moment in time!
